I’m participating on a very interesting panel in Berlin this fall titled “OBJECTHOOD and THEORETICAL PHYSICS: Perspectives on Forces and Matter.” A group of very diverse panelists will try to dig deeper into contemporary perspectives on the age-old problems of objecthood, materialism and time. The panel will be moderated by Pier-Luigi Tazzi, curator of Documenta IX.

This past December I visited Cayman Brac, a small island in the Caribbean to research the Teignmouth Electron, a 40 foot sailboat involved in a failed solo attempt to circumnavigate of the earth without stopping in the late 1960’s. The boat has been beached on the island for the last 25 years. Here’s a link to some images of the boat and a brief narrative of it’s bizarre history. After about two years of research, travel and lots of tribulation, I purchased the boat from its longtime owner, Winston McDermott. Read the press release. The Great Circuit is discovered! After nearly two years of research and development the longest possible walk-able route around the earth has been discovered. Titled The Great Circuit, the project was realized at the University of Kansas while working closely with the university’s Geography and Cartographic Departments. The project was funded generously by Grand Arts in Kansas City, Missouri as part of the forthcoming exhibition Riverboat Love Songs for the Ghost Whale Regatta as well as The Nancy Graves Foundation based in New York, New York.
